Orange

Orange is located in the heart of the Côtes-du-Rhône wine region in the Vaucluse department. A stay in one of Provacances' holiday homes in Orange offers great opportunities to explore the historic town of Orange or go on exciting excursions in the surrounding countryside. Orange and the surrounding area also offers a wide range of sports activities, including golf, walking and hiking, cycling, skiing, horse riding, climbing and paragliding.

Orange is an incredibly exciting city with many historical and cultural relics. First and foremost, Orange boasts two of Europe's finest monuments from Roman times: The Théâtre Antique, a Roman theatre from the 1st century, which is the best preserved ancient theatre in the world. The theatre is world famous for its cultural events: Les Chorégies d'Orange. The theatre is also the only one in the world that still has its imperial statue intact. The Arc de Triomphe, dating from the same period, is one of the most well-preserved Roman triumphal arches.

The old theatre is located at the foot of the Colline St-Europe. At the top of the hill is a large park with shady trees, walking and running paths and a botanical promenade. From here there are excellent views of the theatre, the city and the Rhône plain towards the Dentelles de Montmirail mountain range to the east. Here you'll also find the ruins of the castle of the Princes of Orange.

The old town of Orange is extremely interesting and actually resembles a larger Provençal village with its narrow, winding streets, well-restored houses and small shady squares.

From mid-April to mid-October, the centre of town life is a large daily market where you can find French delicacies and all kinds of different foods etc.

Golf - There is a wealth of golf courses in the area, 4 in the department of Vaucluse and several in the neighbouring southern department of Bouhes du Rhône. The French Golf Union has a website where most courses are presented. Unfortunately, the website is in French.
