Le Barroux

The charming medieval village of Le Barroux is beautifully situated on top of a small cliff between the Dentelles de Montmirail mountain range to the west and the legendary Mont Ventoux to the east. Le Barroux is a small, quiet town set in the most marvellous surroundings. A holiday in Le Barroux offers great opportunities for exciting excursions in the Provencal hinterland or for numerous outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, climbing, rafting, golf and much more. Le Barroux is also just 37 kilometres from the very interesting city of Avignon with its huge papal palace.

Le Barroux is a typical Provençal mountain village with narrow winding streets, old well-restored stone houses, small shady squares and several old fountains. The town is dominated by a huge castle that originally dates back to the 12th century. However, in the 16th century it was transformed into a very beautiful Renaissance castle, one of the most beautiful in the region. The castle, which was restored in 1960, includes a chapel with some very beautiful 18th-century murals.

At the top of the town, there is the most amazing panoramic view over the plaine du Comtat, towards the Plateaux de Vaucluse and Dentelles de Montmirail mountain ranges and of course Mont Ventoux.
