Tourrettes

The charming little village of Tourrettes is nestled high in the heart of Provence, 25 km west of Cannes and Grasse and 30 km north of one of the Riviera's best beaches in St-Aygulf.

Tourrettes is located in a very mountainous and lush area with Provence's many picturesque villages within easy reach, including the very cosy Fayence, which is only 4 km away. Tourrettes is therefore an ideal starting point for your holiday.

Tourrettes is a peaceful town that is definitely worth a visit.

It's a typical mountain village with narrow streets and alleys, old medieval stone houses and shady squares. At the top of the town, in the Place de l'Horloge, you'll find a square bell tower, the last remnant of the Château des seigneurs de Villeneuve, which ruled the town from the early 13th century until the Revolution. From here, there are stunning views of the surrounding countryside with the Esterel Mountains far out on the horizon.

The town also has a chapel, Chapelle des Pénitents, founded by the monks from the Lérins islands off Cannes.

The town is dominated by the imposing and very special Château du Puy, built in 1830 by General Alexandre Fabre, one of France's first polytechnicians, who was seconded to Russia by Napoleon at the Tsar's request to help develop Russia's road network. He spent 20 years in Russia before returning to Tourrettes as a highly decorated general. Unfortunately, the castle is privately owned and therefore cannot be visited.
