Ste-Maxime

Ste-Maxime is a coastal town located in the Var department, 15 kilometres north of St-Tropez and just on the opposite side of the Golfe de St-Tropez. Ste-Maxime is sheltered by France's southernmost mountain range, the Massif des Maures, with large forests of chestnut and cork oak. This exceptional location makes Ste-Maxime an ideal holiday destination.

Ste-Maxime is a dynamic city with a big summer crowd. It boasts a beautiful promenade, a harbour, good sandy beaches, all kinds of water sports, a lively nightlife, markets, restaurants and a casino.

Ste-Maxime also has an old town centre with a 15th-century château, which is now used as a town hall, and a 16th-century square tower, La Tour Carré.

The good weather and location have attracted many artists, poets and writers over the years. For example, Jean de Brunhoff, the author of the comic strip The Barbarian Elephant, lived in the city for a number of years. This character gave his name to one of the beaches in the area, La Plage des Eléphants.
