Montauroux

The small medieval village of Montauroux is located in the eastern part of the Var department on the border with the Alpes Maritimes. Montauroux is beautifully situated at an altitude of 368 metres and is one of the so-called villages perchés, floating villages. Montauroux is surrounded by the Esterel mountains, Lac de St Cassien, Massif du Tanneron and la Vallée de la haute Siagne.

Montauroux is located midway between the sea (30 km) and the nearest ski resorts (45 km). It is therefore a great starting point for holidays and excursions in the surrounding countryside.

Montauroux is a small picturesque town with an amazing history. The town is built around a castle that was heavily damaged during the Wars of Religion. There are important historical memories such as the ruins of a Roman quadrangle, medieval church, chapels and houses from the 17th and 18th centuries. The town also boasts a large number of beautiful stone fountains. Montauroux was the scene of a battle between Henri VI and the Duke of Savoy in 1592. Christian Dior was attracted by its charm and had a summer residence in the town, the Château de la Colle Noire.

Skiing: Major ski resorts within a reasonable distance: www.skifrance.fr/default-a.htm. The nearest ski resort, Andon, is just 45 km north of Montauroux. Here you'll find 3 km of pistes, consisting of 22 pistes and 8 lifts.
