Collobrières
Collobrières is the main town in the Massif des Maures, France's southernmost mountain massif. This incredibly lush area is characterised by chestnut, cork, oak and pine trees, creating a picturesque backdrop that is full of life. The dark undergrowth, consisting of myrrh and thorn scrub, gives the area a mysterious charm. Thanks to its scenic location deep in the forest, Collobrières is the ideal holiday destination and a perfect starting point for excursions and adventures in the region. Collobrières is a small, peaceful but extremely interesting town that is definitely worth a visit. The cobbled streets invite you to take a leisurely stroll while savouring the genuine Provencal atmosphere. The city is crossed by the river Real Colloubrier, after which it is named. The name derives from the Provençal term for a river full of snakes, adding a local colour to the character of the area. One of the most remarkable sites in Collobrières is the old stone bridge, Pont Raoul Calvi, which dates back to the 11th century. As you cross the bridge, you'll be greeted by the beautiful Chapelle Notre Dame de Pitié, which showcases the rich history and culture of the area. Right next door you'll find Confisserie Azurienne, a small shop famous for its delicious candied chestnuts, a local speciality not to be missed. Along the river there are also several wooden bridges that lead to cosy cafés on the other side where you can enjoy a Provençal coffee or a local delicacy.
