Bagnols-en-Forêt

Bagnols-en-Forêt is an idyllic medieval village beautifully situated at an altitude of 280 metres in the Var department, 18 km from the coastal town of Fréjus. Bagnols-en-Forêt's scenic location between the Haut Var and the Côte d'Azur makes it an ideal holiday destination for excursions along the coast and into the beautiful Provencal hinterland.

Bagnols-en-Forêt is a small, peaceful but extremely interesting town that is definitely worth a visit. The town is set in a clearing surrounded by chestnut trees and pine forests. From the town there are panoramic views of the valleys and hills to the south and west. Bagnol-en-Forêt is a typical Provençal village with small winding streets, shady squares and old stone houses. The church of St. Antonin in the centre of town, rebuilt in the 16th-17th centuries, has a beautiful bell tower with the classic Provencal wrought iron campanile at the top. In the town centre square, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee in the shade of large plane trees, stands a unique bronze fountain.

If you go to the top of the city, you will find the small chapel, Chapelle Ste. Anne, with an interesting octagonal pyramidal bell tower. At the top of the hill is a park with the most amazing views of the countryside. Next to the park is the town's football pitch and here you'll also find a strange round building covered in ivy.

About 500 metres outside the town on the D47 towards Chapelle Notre-Dame, a bridge crosses a small stream. A path leads back into the forest to the east up the Vallon de Vaouloube to the small cascade, cascade de Gourbachin.
