Anthéor

With its easily recognisable railway viaduct located on the beautiful Corniche d'Or, Anthéor is one of France's most beautiful stretches of road that connects Saint-Raphaël in the west with Cannes in the east. This unique stretch runs along the wild volcanic Estérel mountain range with the red rock formations on one side and the azure Mediterranean Sea on the other.

The Corniche d'Or passes one marvellous rock formation after another. Along the way, there are car parks where you can stop and enjoy the incredible rock formations that run all the way to the sea, where they lie like small islands and skerries. All along the coast there are hidden coves with small isolated beaches squeezed between the rocks.

Above the town of Anthéor, the red rock massif rises up and dominates the entire bay. There are plenty of hiking routes in the area from where you can enjoy the most breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. ‘Pic du Cap Roux (453 metres above sea level), the closest viewpoint, offers grand panoramic views. Further east, you can turn off the coastal road and follow the forest road ‘route forestier’ up to Mont Vinaigre (628 metres, the highest point in the massif) and on to Pic de l'Ours. From here the views are even more breathtaking.

Anthéor beach, located under the large old railway viaduct, is very child-friendly with a gently sloping sandy beach. On both sides of the bay are the beautiful red cliffs. Other than that, Anthéor doesn't offer much more than its stunning nature.
