Tourrettes-sur-Loup

The small village of Tourrettes-sur-Loup is located in the beautiful hinterland between Cannes and Nice, just 14 kilometres from the coast. It is an extremely charming medieval village that is well worth a visit. Clinging to the cliffs between two deep gorges, Tourrettes-sur-Loup is set in stunning countryside and makes a great holiday destination.

Tourrettes-sur-Loup is known as the violet city, and this is no coincidence. This flower has been cultivated for centuries and is still one of the main activities in the town today. The violet is celebrated every year in March at a large-scale flower festival.

You should park your car outside the town, as it's almost impossible to find a parking space in the town centre. Tourrettes-sur-Loup was a fortified town in the Middle Ages. There are still three arched passages that lead under the houses and into the town centre. Tourrettes-sur-Loup is best described as a charming jumble. Nothing is the same, everything is different and there is no straight line anywhere in the town.

In the heart of the city, the horseshoe-shaped Grand Rue is packed with art galleries and craft shops. The town is home to a number of artists who find the peace and inspiration they need here.

In the centre of the village is the 15th-century Château des Villeneuves, which now serves as the town hall and also hosts various exhibitions throughout the year. The building includes a church and an 11th-century watchtower and there is a small courtyard with a fountain.

Just outside the city, you'll find the small museum Notre-Dame-des-Fleurs, also known as Château des Arômes. The castle was built in the 19th century by a perfume manufacturer from Grasse and once housed a Benedictine monastery. The monks' cells and a chapel from that time still exist. There is also a restaurant here that serves exquisite cuisine.
