La Gaude

La Gaude is a small mountain village nestled on a ridge between Vence and Nice in lush surroundings. For many years it was an overlooked and poor town, but it is now full of charm and natural beauty. Today, La Gaude has become an attractive area for visitors and has developed into an ideal holiday destination thanks to its fantastic location. The scenic surroundings and hilly landscapes make La Gaude an excellent starting point for excursions to nearby attractions.

One of the most striking buildings in La Gaude is the Château de Marquis de la Gaude, once a ruin, now newly restored. This impressive building dominates the entire village and offers a glimpse of the area's history, although unfortunately it's not possible to get inside as the château is now privately owned.

As you stroll through the narrow, cobbled streets of La Gaude, you'll discover beautifully restored house facades that bear witness to the typical Provençal style. The atmosphere of the village is welcoming and relaxing, making it an ideal place to escape the stresses of everyday life. Marcel Pagnol's name is strongly linked to La Gaude. After spending part of his life in a neighbouring village where he was born, he retired to La Gaude where he lived for the last 30 years of his life.

Every year, a festival in honour of the world-renowned author takes place in early August. This event brings together locals and visitors to pay tribute to Pagnol's work with theatre performances, film screenings and cultural events that bring the community together around art and literature.

La Gaude is not only a charming village, but also a wonderful place to experience the Provençal lifestyle and its rich cultural heritage. Whether you want to explore the natural beauty of the area, attend the festivals or just enjoy a relaxing holiday, La Gaude will certainly leave you with unforgettable memories.
