![]() Cabris![]() Cabris is a charming little medieval village perched on top of a ridge just west of the perfume town of Grasse and just 25 kilometres north of Cannes and the Mediterranean. At the top of the village are the remains of an old medieval castle, a section of the medieval fortress wall and the old parish church, Notre-Dame de l'Assomption, from 1630. From the old and very beautiful castle square, Place Mirabeau, there is the most magnificent panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea, the Bay of Cannes and the islands of Iles-de-Lérins, the Tanneron mountains and the large bathing lake, Lac de Saint-Cassien. Below is the charming old town with its narrow, winding streets and arched passages between tall medieval buildings. The town also boasts an old town hall, a bell tower and a beautiful chapel, Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs. There are a few small shops, restaurants and cafés. Cabris has attracted countless artists over the years, including writers Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Albert Camus and André Gide. Today, Cabris is a lively artists' town with many local artisans: glass artists, olive wood craftsmen and the traditional Provençal “santonniers” - the unique craft of the small Provençal santon clay figures (crib figures). |
