Start your tour of Vence's old town by entering via the Porte du Peyra, the oldest and most impressive of Vence's five medieval city gates. From here you'll enter the city's central square, Place du Peyra, with a myriad of restaurants and cafés and an impressive 19th-century fountain. Take a seat in one of the cafés, watch the passers-by and soak up the unique southern atmosphere.

The city's main attraction is the Chapelle du Rosaire de Vence, also known as the Matisse Chapel. Henri Matisse was responsible for both the architecture and decoration of this small chapel and it is considered a masterpiece.
