Discover the Estérel CoastThe Estérel Mountains, also known as the Massif de l'Estérel, is a volcanic mountain range along the French Mediterranean coast, famous for its spectacular natural beauty and distinctive red rocks. Discover the Estérel Mountains either on foot along the many hiking routes or by car along the scenic roads. The N98 follows the coastline close to the lovely beaches and small harbour towns, while the N7 takes you further inland where nature is more pristine and the views are nothing short of magnificent. The northern side of the massif borders the N7, which runs through the Esterel Gabet and follows the historic Roman Via Aurelia from Cannes to Fréjus. At the Testannier crossroads, 11 kilometres from Fréjus, a road leads to Mont Vinaigre, the highest point in the massif. From here you can enjoy an exceptional panoramic view stretching from the Alps to the Massif des Maures. On the seaward side, the N98 coastal road winds its way from Saint-Raphaël along the stunning red cliffs to Agay, a beautifully situated holiday resort with a lovely sandy beach and a charming marina. From Agay, the road continues to Anthéor and Pointe de l'Observatoire. Just before Pointe de l'Observatoire, a left turn leads to the Cap Roux and Pic de l'Ours exit. The coastal road then continues through several holiday resorts to La Napoule, where the Riviera begins. Along the way, there are several car parks where you can stop to take photos and enjoy the impressive rock formations that plunge dramatically into the sea to form small islands and skerries. ![]() Recommended hiking routes in Massif de l'Estérel:Explore the scenic hiking trails in Massif de l'Estérel, with each route offering a unique experience with spectacular viewpoints and magnificent scenery.
