Holidays in Cagnes-sur-MerCagnes-sur-Mer is centrally located on the French Riviera between Nice and Antibes. It is an excellent starting point for excursions up and down the coast and into the exciting Provencal hinterland with beautiful nature and charming medieval towns. Cagnes-sur-Mer consists of three parts: the holiday and seaside resort of Cros-de-Cagnes, Cagnes-Ville, the commercial centre and the medieval district of Haut-de-Cagnes. Haut-de-Cagnes is the most interesting. It sits on top of a small mountain surrounded by city walls and dominated by the curious miniature castle Château Grimaldi, which hosts a large-scale international painting exhibition every summer. The great French painter Auguste Renoir moved here in 1903, suffering from arthritis, and spent his last 15 years in the house les Colettes surrounded by old olive trees and many flowers. The villa is now a museum. Visitors can walk around his beloved olive grove with the fine bronze statue Venus Victrix. Cagnes-sur-Mer has a lovely beach that runs the length of the town. However, be aware that the beach is covered with pebbles and the water deepens relatively quickly. In a few places there are restaurants on the beach where you can rent sunbeds and parasols. Small sailboats, catamarans and surfboards are available for hire in several places. ![]() Nightlife is relatively quiet, with one exception. Cagnes-sur-Mer has its own casino, Casino Terrazur, which is open late into the night. If you're looking for a wilder nightlife, you'll have to hop in a taxi to Nice.
